7 Days to Pray

Be joyful in hope, patient in affliction, faithful in prayer. (Romans 12:2 NIV)

If any of you lacks wisdom [to guide him through a decision or circumstance], he is to ask of [our benevolent] God, who gives to everyone generously and without rebuke or blame, and it will be given to him. (James 1:5 AMP)

Open your mouth for the mute,
For the rights of all who are unfortunate and defenseless;
Open your mouth, judge righteously,
And administer justice for the afflicted and needy. (Proverbs 31:8-9 AMP
)

You are the salt of the earth; but if the salt has lost its taste (purpose), how can it be made salty? It is no longer good for anything, but to be thrown out and walked on by people [when the walkways are wet and slippery]. You are the light of [Christ to] the world. A city set on a hill cannot be hidden… (Matthew 5:13-14 AMP)

All-Powerful God,

Thank You for the freedoms we enjoy in this nation and for the civic responsibility we have to vote in elections. As early voting has opened in many jurisdictions, we pray that each person who calls on the name of Jesus will pray, research the candidates, and evaluate their platforms and plans in light of Your calling and Your Word. We recognize that not voting and voting are both decisions with potential consequences, and we pray that You would convict believers to help influence our society for Your Kingdom purposes. Help us remember that politics must not become an idol and that our hope is not in government, but in You alone. Help us remain faithful to You while responsibly considering the opportunities and obligations of life in the society where You have placed us.

God, for those who believe You are in control, so voting doesn’t matter, we pray that Your Spirit will remind them that trusting in Your sovereignty does not mean neglecting our responsibilities. You often work through the choices and actions of people to accomplish Your purposes.

For those who view politics as worldly, divisive, or inherently corrupt, we pray that they will still consider how biblical principles relate to decisions that affect their communities and our nation. Help them look beyond the perceived “dirtiness” of politics and recognize how their votes can impact the lives of people in their communities, both today and for generations to come.

For Christians who believe their votes don’t matter, who feel the system is too corrupt, or who are dissatisfied with the candidates, we pray that You will lead them to prayerfully evaluate the available choices. Help them vote for a candidate not as a savior, but as the best biblically grounded option available on the ballot. May they not fear being associated with a political party or feel that voting for an imperfect candidate means endorsing everything that candidate believes or does. Instead, may they research, pray, and vote for those whose positions most closely align with biblical values.

We pray against every spirit of fear, discouragement, apathy, indecision, and indifference, as well as the lack of information that can keep people from participating in the voting process. Give Your people a desire to help elect leaders who will pursue justice, enact good laws, and establish conditions in which all citizens have the opportunity to thrive economically and socially. May each Christian seek to faithfully honor You and love their neighbor when deciding how to vote.

May we, Your people, vote in ways that season this nation with Your Truth and Righteousness and bring Your Light into places of darkness. May we remember that our ultimate allegiance belongs to You and that our purpose is to reflect Your character in every area of our lives. May Your Kingdom come, and Your will be done, on earth as it is in heaven.

We pray all these things in Jesus’ name. AMEN.
