Be joyful in hope, patient in affliction, faithful in prayer. (Romans 12:2 NIV)
Then you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free. (John 8:32 NIV)
All Powerful God,
This has been quite a week for families. A full moon seems to do wacky things to children (and sometimes adults). Add a week of sugar, Halloween activities, the time change, and the spiritual chaos surrounding Tuesday’s election, and this week can be deeply unsettling. But we come to You today knowing that You are our anchor in the time of storm, the One who stills the waves and calms the seas, the One whose presence offers us hope and peace amid life’s challenges.
Today we pray for the future. We pray that every voter would look beyond the Iran war, high gas prices, or the hope of finding a savior in one politician or another. Help every voter understand the importance of making choices that protect our future. Help each voter seek You for wisdom and guidance in their decisions. As we have faced the challenges of this week, may we be people of courage who vote in ways that lessen the challenges of the future.
We pray against the spirits behind socialism and communism that seek to lead voters away from Your all-sufficiency and into idolatry. We pray that voters would recognize that “free stuff” is never truly free and that the long-term costs can far outweigh the short-term benefits. In the name of Jesus, we pray that You would break the power of these wicked spirits and help the spiritual scales to fall from voters’ eyes.
We pray against the spirits, beliefs, and practices within Islam that conflict with Your truth. We pray against deception and the justification of lying to those considered unbelievers in order to advance religious goals. We pray against our nation’s spiritual blindness that keeps women from recognizing the injustices they would face under oppressive interpretations of Islamic law. We also pray against violence carried out or justified in the name of Islam.
We bind these lying spirits in the name of Jesus Christ and pray that their influence would be driven far from our nation. We release spirits of shalom peace, awakening in the society, and revival throughout Your Church.
We pray that voters would make choices that help secure a future filled with hope—for today’s children, tomorrow’s adults, and generations yet to come.
We pray in the strong name of Jesus Christ our Lord, AMEN.
