March 18, 2021 – Prayer for spouses of political figures

Father God,

We praise you for your grace and the peace you give to us.  You are the Father of compassion and the God of all comfort, the One who gives strength to the weary and increases the power of the weak.  Your voice thunders as you fight for us.  Today we pray for godly spouses of your children who are serving you in political positions.  We pray that their marriages would be knit together with you as a cord of three strands that cannot be broken.  We pray that their parenting would be courageous and with the intent of training up their children in your ways, so that your Spirit and your Word will not depart from them or their descendants.   We pray for encouragement and empowerment where spouses have grown weary in the political climate; give strength and hope to them so they can run and not grow weary pursuing the purpose you have set before them.  We especially pray that you would protect these families from the attacks of the enemy of our souls.  We pray that you would expose and rebuke the plans of the enemy, breaking the plots of the foes against your good people.  Take hold of your children who are exhausted by the political fight – exhausted by trying to bring righteousness and godliness to this nation – exhausted by the fight against the things of the Lord – and draw them out of despair and discouragement into a spacious place of peace. Give them good friends for support and a fresh outpouring of your Spirit to strengthen, encourage, and guide them.  God of Grace and God of Glory, on your people, pour your power for the facing of this hour.  We pray all this in the strong name of Christ.  Amen.

“Grace and peace to you from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ. Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of compassion and the God of all comfort, who comforts us in all our troubles, so that we can comfort those in any trouble with the comfort we ourselves receive from God.” (2 Corinthians 1:2-4 NIV)

“Also, if two lie down together, they will keep warm.

    But how can one keep warm alone?
12 Though one may be overpowered,
    two can defend themselves.
A cord of three strands is not quickly broken.” (Ecclesiastes 4:12 NIV)

“My Spirit, who is on you, will not depart from you, and my words that I have put in your mouth will always be on your lips, on the lips of your children and on the lips of their descendants—from this time on and forever,” says the Lord.” (Isaiah 59:21 NIV)

Train up a child in the way he should go [teaching him to seek God’s wisdom and will for his abilities and talents], Even when he is old he will not depart from it.” (Proverbs 22:6 AMP)

“He gives strength to the weary

    and increases the power of the weak.

Even youths grow tired and weary,

    and young men stumble and fall;

but those who hope in the Lord

    will renew their strength.

They will soar on wings like eagles;

    they will run and not grow weary,

    they will walk and not be faint.” (Isaiah 40:29-31 NIV)

“The Lord thundered from heaven;

    the voice of the Most High resounded.

He shot his arrows and scattered the enemy,

    with great bolts of lightning he routed them.

The valleys of the sea were exposed

    and the foundations of the earth laid bare

at your rebuke, Lord,

    at the blast of breath from your nostrils.

He reached down from on high and took hold of me;

    he drew me out of deep waters.

He rescued me from my powerful enemy,

    from my foes, who were too strong for me.

They confronted me in the day of my disaster,

    but the Lord was my support.

He brought me out into a spacious place;

    he rescued me because he delighted in me.” (Psalm 18:13-19 NIV)
