“And my God will meet all your needs according to the riches of his glory in Christ Jesus.”
(Philippians 4:19 NIV)
Last night I went into church service with an anxious heart. I have a Big Hairy Audacious Project I’m working on for June and it needs funding. I had just run the numbers and realized that I needed to get sponsors and donors quickly in order to make this happen and I was – again – overwhelmed. I talked to an older couple in church and asked them to think and pray about what businesses or others we could contact about supporting the ministry. I was having trouble remembering that Jehovah Jireh is my/our provider and he will supply all our needs.
I believe that when God calls you to do something Big, Hairy, and Audacious he has to provide what you need. “Jehovah Jireh,” is “The Lord Will Provide,” as he did with Abraham at the sacrifice of Isaac, the Israelites wandering in the desert for 40 years, the widow Ruth who had to support her widowed mother-in-law, and Paul who relied on the churches and his own work to support him. God doesn’t change. So, when he calls you and me to do things for his Kingdom, he will provide the resources – even if that means you and I have to find the ram in the thicket, pick up the manna or harvested grain, from the ground, and write letters.
Last night I had one of those “Million Little Miracles” that the song talks about. This particular couple unexpectedly pulled several hundred dollars out and gave it to me as seed money for the ministry.
I could have cried.
Thank you, God, for a glimpse of hope. I’m willing to do the work to find the provision, but, at that moment, was overwhelmed by the work it would seemingly take. This felt like a small miracle. It felt like hope in the midst of anxiety.
Where are the little miracles in your life?
Jehovah Jireh,
Thank you for being our God Who Provides, in little ways and in big. Thank you for the Biblical reminders of how many people you have graciously provided for in the past, and for the modern reminders of how you have and continue to provide for us today. Thank you that you do supply all our needs according to your riches which have no limit. No matter the circumstances we are walking through, show us the places where you are providing, make us mindful of your hope in our lives, and give us hearts to thank and praise you for the “million little miracles” you have given us each day. In Jesus’s name we pray, Amen.
“Million Little Miracles”
All my life, I’ve been carried by grace
Don’t ask me how ’cause I can’t explain
It’s nothing short of a miracle I’m here
I’ve got some blessings that I don’t deserve
I’ve got some scars, but that’s how you learn
It’s nothing short of a miracle I’m here
I think it over and it doesn’t add up
I know it comes from aboveI’ve got miracles on miracles
A million little miracles
Miracles on miracles
Count your miracles
One, two, three, four, I can’t even count ’em all
You held me steady so I wouldn’t give up
You opened doors that nobody could shut
I hope I never get over what You’ve done
I wanna live with an open heart
I wanna live like I know who You are
I hope I never get over what You’ve done
It’s not coincidence and it’s not luck
I know it comes from aboveI’ve got miracles on miracles
A million little miracles
Miracles on miracles
Count your miracles
One, two, three, four, I can’t even count ’em all…
And a bonus (but related!) song:
