I’ve got nothing

I went to bed late last night and was too tired to write my blog post. I have a span of days coming up when I will probably have to “recycle” old ones, so I don’t want to just slap something up this morning. But, really, I’ve got nothing that seems to be rising to the surface to write about. Nothing monumental has happened and most of the small things aren’t worth a whole blog post. I don’t have any “revelations” from scripture or anything I can quote from someone’s sermon. Really, I’ve got nothing.

But, maybe today, what feels like nothing should really be a renewed focus on the little things.

The birds are singing. My body breathed all night and I am awake this morning. When I turned on the faucet water came out. The beautiful sunshine is flooding through the window. These things aren’t nothing. The positive words my pastor said to me last night about the camp aren’t nothing. The excitement in my child’s face as today is the day for a long-awaited dream to come true isn’t nothing. The willingness of an older woman in the church to help me with a project isn’t nothing. The hugs and smiles I receive aren’t nothing. They are, in their own right, blessings to count – a million little miracles.

“It’s not coincidence and it’s not luck
I know it comes from above

“I’ve got miracles on miracles
A million little miracles
Miracles on miracles
Count your miracles
One, two, three, four, I can’t even count ’em all*

“Count your blessings, name them one by one,
Count your blessings, see what God has done!
Count your blessings, name them one by one,
Count your many blessings, see what God has done. **

So, really, today is not a day of “I’ve Got Nothing” as much as it is a day to remember that God Has Given Me Everything I Need. And that is something.

We give thanks to you, Lord, with all our hearts. We tell of your wonderful deeds and rejoice in you. Thank you for all the little miracles and blessings you give to us. Thank you for the tiniest blessings – and the largest miracles. We sing praises to your name, O Most High, grateful that you have given us times and seasons for everything. Help our hearts remain grateful to you, Jehovah Jireh, our Provider. In Jesus’s name we pray, Amen.

“There is a time for everything,
    and a season for every activity under the heavens.” (Ecclesiastes 3:1 NIV)

“I will give thanks to you, Lord, with all my heart;
    I will tell of all your wonderful deeds.
I will be glad and rejoice in you;
    I will sing the praises of your name, O Most High.” (Psalm 9:1-2 NIV)
