[Please join me in praying for younger generations and families on Thursdays this year.]
“He humbled you, causing you to hunger and then feeding you with manna, which neither you nor your ancestors had known, to teach you that man does not live on bread alone but on every word that comes from the mouth of the Lord.” (Deuteronomy 8:3 NIV)
There is a hunger in the earth right now. Not just a physical hunger; that has been present in every person in every generation in all places. Instead, there is a hunger for Truth, Goodness, Justice, Righteousness, real Freedom, Love, and Peace. This hunger is for the things of the Lord. We see this hunger in the tens of thousands who have journeyed to college campuses where God’s Spirit is poured out. There they find the Glory of the Lord. In our Old Testament, this phenomena was described in beautiful ways:
“I saw the Lord, high and exalted, seated on a throne; and the train of his robe filled the temple. [T]he cloud [of God’s Glory] filled the temple of the Lord. And the priests could not perform their service because of the cloud, for the glory of the Lord filled his temple.” (Isaiah 6:1, 1 Kings 8:10-11 NIV)
The Glory of the Lord is very present to those who are hungering after God. A friend of mine is at the college where her son attends and described the hunger for Glory this way:
“Students there heard what was happening at Asbury and made reservations and plans to go on Friday. But they said, “let’s get ourselves prepared” and met together to pray. About 10 of them. And the Spirit fell! The next night they met again, and there were 25 and the Spirit fell again! Then they asked for help finding a bigger space, and [another church] offered their chapel. Every day and evening, late into the night, they met to pray. They turned off all the music, with no leader, and just repented for their generation. Prayed for the lost. God was working. Miraculous healing. The Spirit of God fell on unsaved people they were praying for and these people were saved, delivered, and filled with the Holy Spirit with tongues in an instant. No one touched them. No one was there! Just the lost soul and the Spirit!”
May we, too, always be hungry for the things of God. And may God’s Glory be poured out on all generations today.
Lord God of Glory,
There is no God like you in heaven above or on earth below—you who keep your covenant of love with your servants who continue wholeheartedly in your way. You give us spiritual and physical manna because every word comes from your mouth. You lead us beside springs of Living Water so that we neither hunger or thirst, but seek you and your Glory. You satisfy the poor, the hungry, the grieving, and the persecuted with an abundance of your Presence and you pour out your holy Peace, Love, Joy, Grace, Mercy, Healing, Justice, Righteousness, Goodness and Truth. God, stir up the hunger for you that is within us. We need you to fill each person in this nation and world with your Spirit. We beg you to pour out your Glory upon these generations. Satisfy our souls and guide us to the everlasting fountains of your Abundant Life. We ask this in the strong name of Jesus Christ, Amen.
“They will neither hunger nor thirst, nor will the desert heat or the sun beat down on them. He who has compassion on them will guide them and lead them beside springs of water.” (Isaiah 49:10 NIV)
“Lord, the God of Israel, there is no God like you in heaven above or on earth below—you who keep your covenant of love with your servants who continue wholeheartedly in your way.” (1 Kings 8:23 NIV)
“Blessed are you who are poor,
for yours is the kingdom of God.
Blessed are you who hunger now,
for you will be satisfied.
Blessed are you who weep now,
for you will laugh.
Blessed are you when people hate you,
when they exclude you and insult you
and reject your name as evil,
because of the Son of Man.” (Luke 6:20-22 NIV)
“They are ones who have washed their robes and made them white in the blood of the Lamb and have emerged from the midst of great pressure and ordeal. For this reason they are before the throne of God, ministering to him as priests day and night, within his cloud-filled sanctuary. And the enthroned One spreads over them his tabernacle-shelter. Their souls will be completely satisfied. And neither the sun nor any scorching heat will affect them. For the Lamb at the center of the throne continuously shepherds them unto life—guiding them to the everlasting fountains of the water of life.” (Revelation 7:14-17 TPT)
