Redeeming generational trauma

[Please join me in praying for children, families, and our future on Thursdays this year.

The post is from Anne Jackson and I wrote the prayer.]

“And the LORD restored the fortunes of Job… And the LORD gave Job twice as much as he had before… And the LORD blessed the latter days of Job more than his beginning…” (Job 42:10, 12)

“Many of you have experienced extreme heartache and loss over the past few years. You are waiting on promises to come to pass, and it seems like they’ll never show up. Or something has been stolen from you, which you believed was good and a gift from God. These losses have devastated you, and you have been feeling the effects of a broken heart. In addition, you may be feeling the pain of a dysfunctional family or of a generational struggle. Whether that generational struggle is addiction, poverty, or broken marriages, know this: This is not the end of the story. In fact, it is only the middle, and the best is yet to come.

God is redeeming brokenness, generational trauma, and loss. For some of you, the pain that you have been feeling is even more connected to generational trauma than any one situation in your life. Generational trauma is where painful events or beliefs are passed down through generations. These are habits, mindsets, illnesses, or even fears.

God is specifically and intentionally healing generational trauma right now. He is exposing areas where there have been agreements, bondage or sin in your family line, and He is setting you free! This ends with you. The heartache, the pain, and the brokenness ends with you. You may have felt shame over some of your struggles, but God wants you to know that they are not your fault. Many things you have faced did not start with you, but they do get to end with you.

If this resonates with you, lean into the presence of God and ask Him what the keys are for you and your family. He is releasing specific keys for healing and breakthrough of generational trauma. He may ask you to repent on behalf of those who have come before you. He may ask you to partner with a new belief over who you are and who your family is. He may ask you to forgive people you’ve never even met as an act of intercession. Trust Him! You have access to a brand new spiritual inheritance in Christ Jesus that will affect you and those who come after you, and it will even manifest in your physical life. He is redeeming your story and He is redeeming your family’s story. Stay connected to His presence and continue to bless Him no matter what comes up or goes on in your life.”

God of Healing and Restoration,

We thank you that you care about the details of our lives and are intentional about your relationships with us. Today we pray for all who need healing from generational trauma, pain, wickedness, and curses. We pray in the name of Jesus that you will restore to us that which is of you and was lost and stolen. Thank you that you are the God of healing, restoration, and unexpected and amazing upgrades! Thank you that you are redeeming and healing our family lines so that our descendants may be freed from the sins, pain, and trauma of the past and know the joy of life lived in union with you. We ask this in the triumphant name of Jesus Christ, AMEN.

“The thief comes only in order to steal and kill and destroy. I came that they may have and enjoy life, and have it in abundance [to the full, till it overflows].” (John 10:10 AMP)

“What is mankind that you are mindful of them,
human beings that you care for them?” (Psalm 8:4 NIV)

“But now take another look. I’m going to give this city a thorough renovation, working a true healing inside and out. I’m going to show them life whole, life brimming with blessings. I’ll restore everything that was lost to Judah and Jerusalem. I’ll build everything back as good as new. I’ll scrub them clean from the dirt they’ve done against me. I’ll forgive everything they’ve done wrong, forgive all their rebellions. And Jerusalem will be a center of joy and praise and glory for all the countries on earth. They’ll get reports on all the good I’m doing for her. They’ll be in awe of the blessings I am pouring on her.” (Jeremiah 33:5-7 MSG)
