Still Enough

Have you ever been still enough to hear the buzz of a majestic hummingbird’s wings?
Have you ever been still enough to watch a cotton ball cloud drift?
Have you ever been still enough to wonder where the butterfly spent the winter?
Have you ever been still enough to smell the breeze’s energy?
Have you ever been still enough to taste and see the Lord is good? *

Be still, and know that I am God;
    I will be exalted among the nations,
    I will be exalted in the earth. (Psalm 46:10 NIV)

Be still before the Lord
    and wait patiently for him. (Psalm 37:7 NIV)

The Lord said, “Go out and stand on the mountain in the presence of the Lord, for the Lord is about to pass by.” Then a great and powerful wind tore the mountains apart and shattered the rocks before the Lord, but the Lord was not in the wind. After the wind there was an earthquake, but the Lord was not in the earthquake. After the earthquake came a fire, but the Lord was not in the fire. And after the fire came a gentle whisper. When Elijah heard it, he pulled his cloak over his face and went out and stood at the mouth of the cave. (1 Kings 19:11-13 NIV)

Who is like you, Lord God Almighty?
    You, Lord, are mighty, and your faithfulness surrounds you.

You rule over the surging sea;
    when its waves mount up, you still them. (Psalm 89:8-9 NIV)

He stilled the storm to a whisper;
    the waves of the sea were hushed.
They were glad when it grew calm,
    and he guided them to their desired haven.
Let them give thanks to the Lord for his unfailing love
    and his wonderful deeds for mankind. (Psalm 107:29-31 NIV)

Jehovah Shalom,

Who is like you, God of Peace and Lord God Almighty? Your name is the most wonderful on earth. You are exalted above the nations and your unfailing love does wonderful deeds for mankind. Your presence is powerful, but your heart is kind. Thank you that you are present to us in the fires, winds, and earthquakes of life, but your gentleness calls us to trust you when the waves are high and your voice is quiet. Help us to be still, to listen for you in creation, people, and circumstances around us. Help us to hear Holy Spirit’s omnipresence within us. Help us to be still, to be at peace, and to know that You are God, we ask in Jesus’s name, AMEN.
