God has filled him with the Spirit of God, with wisdom and skill, with intelligence and understanding, and with knowledge in all [areas of] craftsmanship, to devise artistic designs to work in gold, silver, and bronze, and in the cutting of stones for setting and in the carving of wood, for work in every skilled craft.
(Exodus 35:31-33 AMP)
There are so many varieties of creativity in the Universe. God, the original and never-surpassed Creator, has planted within each of us who are created in his image our own potential for creativity. Like all things, though, this gift and potential can be twisted by the enemy of our souls to be used for nefarious purposes. So, how do we stay tuned in to how God wants us to use that creativity? We need to listen to that Voice within us.
Here’s what the prophet Habakkuk said about God speaking to us:
I will stand at my guard post
And station myself on the tower;
And I will keep watch to see what He will say to me,
And what answer I will give [as His spokesman] when I am reproved.
Then the Lord answered me and said,
“Write the vision
And engrave it plainly on [clay] tablets
So that the one who reads it will run.
“For the vision is yet for the appointed [future] time
It hurries toward the goal [of fulfillment]; it will not fail.
Even though it delays, wait [patiently] for it,
Because it will certainly come; it will not delay. (Habakkuk 2:1-3 AMP)
The first thing we see from this is “stand on your guard post.” Stand in one place. BE STILL. Shut out the distractions around you and be quiet so you can hear God’s voice.
In that place of silence, we will be able to do the next step: “wait to see.” This is an opportunity to fix your focus on Jesus and wait patiently so he can speak to you.
Third, once we’re focused on Jesus, we can “write my answer.” This “writing” could be a journal entry, but I believe it’s also an opportunity to create – a book, a song, a dance, a drawing, a business, a website, an exercise routine, an invention and many other things can come out of this time of communing with God.
When you’ve “written” or created something, then check it against God’s Word and the wise counselors around you. Check it against the wisdom of your teachers, pastors, and others who help you choose good and godly stuff to put in your hearts. Your creativity comes from the good in your heart. Use that good to tell the best story in the world – GOD’S STORY. Honor God with your creativity!
Today, may we listen to the Holy Spirit’s Voice within us so that what we create honors God and tells his story.
God,
We come to you today as a watchman, waiting patiently, watching the landscape, and searching the horizon for your messages.
Holy Spirit, speak to us we pray….
Thank you, Lord for all you have given us. Help us to continue in a spiritual posture of awareness and listening. Help us to understand and write what you give us. May we catch your vision(s) and honor you with our testimony, we pray in Jesus’s name, AMEN.
