National discernment

Teach me good judgment (discernment) and knowledge,
For I have believed and trusted
and relied on Your commandments.
(Psalm 119:66 AMP)

Our nation has a lot of decisions to make this fall. This election cycle seems like it fulfills what some have said for many cycles: “This is the most important election of our lifetime.” While I do believe that the US will not rise or fall on one election, the decisions that We the People make this fall will determine the direction of this nation. No longer is the choice between donkeys and elephants, between Mr. Orange Hair and Ms. Cackle. I believe it truly is a crossroads election. Will we as a nation continue hurriedly stumbling towards enslavement to government and atheistic socialism/communism/marxism, or will we choose a messy, hard path of tearing down entrenched economic, political, cultural (and often demonic) powers so we can regain freedom? Elected political officials certainly do not make every decision in every area of life, but they can have great (even outsized) influence. And if this election is a measure of the spiritual health of our nation, then we need to pray.

The hummingbird article I mentioned recently centers on spiritual discernment, and I guess that’s my focus for prayer for our electorate:

“I sense the Lord saying: “I am giving My people eyes to see and holy discernment to distinguish the difference between the counterfeit and the truth. I will give them holy bread from the ovens of Heaven and they will drink from pure wells that never run dry. In these perilous times, I’m giving My people eyes to see and ears to hear.” (See 1 Chron. 12:32, John 10:5, Matt. 13:9, Rev. 22:1.)

Hummingbirds have no sense of smell but are incredibly gifted when discerning one color from another. Some hummingbirds prefer orange or red flowers. They will not feed on just anything but are choosy regarding what they eat…Our Father wants a Bride for His Son that feeds on true spiritual manna, the very depths of His heart. She drinks deeply of His pure water. She does not drink from dirty waters that bring her spiritual harm. She swims in the pure water of His love.

“She will not eat just anything that is set before her; rather, she has eyes to see and holy discernment to recognize the phony from the real thing. She sits in the dining room in heavenly places and dines on divine bread straight from the Father’s heart. She is hungry and consumed by Him alone.” – Steve Porter*

May we the Body of Christ choose and influence the world with DISCERNMENT for our nation.

Lord of the Nations,

You are the God of all gods, and the Lord of all Lords who is great, mighty, and awesome. Your wisdom, ways, and works are perfect. Today we come to you begging and pleading for you to be the leader of the people of this nation. We pray for spiritual eyes and ears to be open to your perfect discernment so that we, the electorate, make wise choices in our voting. May we be able to distinguish between your Truth and the enemy’s counterfeit. Help us to eat and drink not from the polluted sources of the enemy, but your pure and holy guidance. God, we need your Spirit to move across this land, causing her to make wise choices for her future – a future with freedom and hope. We cry out for your intervention, in Jesus’s name, AMEN.

The proverbs of Solomon, David’s son who was king of Israel, given

to grasp wisdom and discipline,
to understand deep thoughts,

to acquire the discipline of wise behavior—
righteousness and justice and fairness—

to give insight to gullible people,
to give knowledge and foresight to the young—

a wise person will listen and continue to learn,
and an understanding person will gain direction—

to understand a proverb and a clever saying,
the words of wise people and their riddles.

The fear of the Lord is the beginning of knowledge.
Stubborn fools despise wisdom and discipline. (Proverbs 1:1-7 GW)

For wisdom will enter your heart,
and knowledge will fill you with joy.
Wise choices will watch over you.
    Understanding will keep you safe.
Wisdom will save you from evil people,
from those whose words are twisted. (Proverbs 2:10-12 NLT)

Now then, you kings, act wisely!
Be warned, you rulers of the earth!
Serve the Lord with reverent fear,
    and rejoice with trembling.
Submit to God’s royal son, or he will become angry,
and you will be destroyed in the midst of all your activities—
for his anger flares up in an instant.
But what joy for all who take refuge in him! (Psalm 2:10-12 NLT)

For the Lord your God is the God of gods and Lord of lords. He is the great God, the mighty and awesome God, who shows no partiality and cannot be bribed. (Deuteronomy 10:17 NLT)
