Put another log on the fire

Do not quench the Spirit.
(1 Thessalonians 5:19 NIV)

Abba, it’s Saturday and I need a blogpost/prayer to publish tomorrow. I usually pray for the Church on Sundays, but I’m not sure what to pray today.

You have prayed for the Church to pray through this election season. Now it needs to continue to pray.

Will people get tired of hearing that?

Are you supposed to listen to people or the Spirit of God?

Sorry. So, continue to pray about what?

The Church needs to pray to continue to influence culture. They need to pray for protection over the men and women I have placed in leadership positions, especially in your governments. They need to continue to press in for Revival, Awakening, and Reformation. This war between the Children of God and the children of evil is not over. My people – my Church – must not quit pressing forward, led by my Spirit and under my authority.

Is that what happened to the Church at Laodicea? They quit praying?

The people of Laodicea experienced success both in worldly wealth and in their spiritual lives. However, they allowed their spiritual passion to fade. Unlike a hot spring or a cold river—both of which have clear, practical uses—they became “lukewarm,” with their spiritual fervor diminished. This is why I warned them not to quench the Spirit. Just like the church in Laodicea, the church today must guard against becoming lukewarm. Instead, believers must persevere in prayer, fasting, worship, and in loving and serving both one another and their neighbors.

So, we need to do the spiritual disciplines in order to keep our spiritual fires hot?

Absolutely, Child. This is no time to relax or take a break. Push on! Move forward in faith! You must continue to seek first my Kingdom, to pray, pray, pray, and to follow hard after my Son. There are souls to be saved and nations to be reformed!

Ruling God,

You are the faithful Creator, the One whose ways and thoughts are so much higher than ours. You are Alpha and Omega; you see the beginning from the end. Today we ask, seek, and knock on the door of heaven with our prayers, thankful that you rebuke and discipline those you love. We repent where we have allowed our spiritual fires to die down. Feed our hunger for more and more of you. We seek you today, asking for you to stir up the fire in the hearts of your children. Pour out your Spirit upon each person in your Church so that we earnestly seek you and serve you. Help us to do the work to keep our spiritual fires burning so that we can continue to intercede for each other and this world. Without you we would be naked, poor, wretched and blind, but with you were are rich in the Spirit, and blessed with your vision, wisdom, and discernment. Come, Holy Spirit, and pour out on your people in your Church today, we ask in Jesus’s name. AMEN.

“To the angel of the church in Laodicea write:

These are the words of the Amen, the faithful and true witness, the ruler of God’s creation. I know your deeds, that you are neither cold nor hot. I wish you were either one or the other! So, because you are lukewarm—neither hot nor cold—I am about to spit you out of my mouth. You say, ‘I am rich; I have acquired wealth and do not need a thing.’But you do not realize that you are wretched, pitiful, poor, blind and naked. I counsel you to buy from me gold refined in the fire, so you can become rich; and white clothes to wear, so you can cover your shameful nakedness; and salve to put on your eyes, so you can see.

Those whom I love I rebuke and discipline. So be earnest and repent.  Here I am! I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears my voice and opens the door, I will come inand eat with that person, and they with me. To the one who is victorious, I will give the right to sit with me on my throne, just as I was victorious and sat down with my Father on his throne. Whoever has ears, let them hear what the Spirit says to the churches.” (Revelation 3:14-22 NIV)
