I will cry to God Most High,
Who accomplishes all things on my behalf
[for He completes my purpose in His plan].
(Psalm 57:2 AMP)
God, I need a blog post to publish.
What’s on your mind?
Nothing really important to pray about. It’s snowing and blowing. I ate delicious potato-cheese-ham soup for supper (and 9:00 p.m. snack). I accomplished several things on my “to do” list yesterday. I have good plans for this weekend. It’s going to be very, very cold outside today.
What do I tell you to pray about?
All things. “In everything, every circumstance and situation, by prayer and petition with thanksgiving, continue to make your specific requests known to God.” (Philippians 4:6)
Does that include snow and soup?
Of course. But it seems so menial.
Do I care about the menial things?
Yes. You said you know even the number of hairs on my head.
I do. Go find some scriptures about “All Things.”
And we know [with great confidence] that God [who is deeply concerned about us] causes all things to work together [as a plan] for good for those who love God, to those who are called according to His plan and purpose. (Romans 8:28 AMP)
I can do all things [which He has called me to do] through Him who strengthens and empowers me [to fulfill His purpose—I am self-sufficient in Christ’s sufficiency; I am ready for anything and equal to anything through Him who infuses me with inner strength and confident peace.] (Philippians 4:13 AMP)
He who descended is the very same as He who also has ascended high above all the heavens, that He [His presence] might fill all things [that is, the whole universe]). (Ephesians 4:10 AMP)
And He put all things [in every realm] in subjection under Christ’s feet, and appointed Him as [supreme and authoritative] head over all things in the church, which is His body, the fullness of Him who fills and completes all things in all [believers]. (Ephesians 1:21-22 AMP)
God, you do seem to be everywhere, and interested in all things.
I AM! But prayer is about more than just what you can do; it’s about who you become. Do you remember when Jesus shared the Parable of the Talents? In it, the master gave each servant “according to his ability.” When he returned, he rewarded those who had been faithful in developing what they were given.
The same principle applies to prayer. Be faithful in praying about the small things, and it will strengthen your “spiritual muscles,” preparing you to pray for bigger things. When you’re thankful for small blessings—like a warm bowl of soup or a small accomplishment—it helps you develop a deeper sense of gratitude, making it easier to be thankful for larger things, even those you might not have thought to thank God for before.
Be faithful in praying for everyday needs, like the safety of your family on their winter commutes, and I will help you grow spiritually, so you can pray with more power for larger needs, like salvations and healings.
Does that mean I shouldn’t pray for big things yet?
No, Child. You should pray for ALL things. But the more consistently you pray for all the things you consider small, menial, and unimportant, the more you grow in prayer. When you call on me in the little things I will teach you great and unsearchable things to help you pray in all situations. So, what should you pray about?
ALL things.
Yes, Child! Well done, good and faithful one!
Thanks for the blog post!
You’re welcome!
Infinite, Omnipotent, Omniscient, and Omnipresent God,
Thank you that you are Lord over all the universe and your presence fills all things. Thank you that all things work together to fulfill your good plans, and that we can do all things when we are in Christ. Thank you that you call us to pray in all situations, small or large, and that Holy Spirit empowers us to grow in our prayer capacity. Help us to be faithful in prayer for all the things of our lives.
Today we come to you in thankfulness for the small things like safe commutes on snowy roads, bowls of warm soup, and functioning heating systems in frigid weather. We’re also thankful for larger things like our churches, our families, and our freedoms. Today we come to you in gratitude for….
Today we come to you to intercede for seemingly small things like a minor pain, a pet who is ill, and a friend who needs an encouraging word. We also intercede for larger things like loved ones we want to see come to faith, the administrative transition in our federal government, and wars and conflicts in Israel/Gaza and Ukraine. Today we come to you to pray and petition for…
You are the trust and hope of all the ends of the earth and of the farthest sea, and you hear every word we pray. By awesome and wondrous things you answer us in righteousness, O God of our salvation. So, we call to you today in Jesus’s name for All the Things. AMEN.
But even the very hairs of your head are all numbered [for the Father is sovereign and has complete knowledge]. (Matthew 10:30 AMP)
Do not be anxious or worried about anything, but in everything [every circumstance and situation] by prayer and petition with thanksgiving, continue to make your [specific] requests known to God. (Philippians 4:6 AMP)
“Again, it will be like a man going on a journey, who called his servants and entrusted his wealth to them. To one he gave five bags of gold, to another two bags, and to another one bag, each according to his ability. Then he went on his journey. The man who had received five bags of gold went at once and put his money to work and gained five bags more. So also, the one with two bags of gold gained two more. But the man who had received one bag went off, dug a hole in the ground and hid his master’s money.
“After a long time the master of those servants returned and settled accounts with them. The man who had received five bags of gold brought the other five. ‘Master,’ he said, ‘you entrusted me with five bags of gold. See, I have gained five more.’
“His master replied, ‘Well done, good and faithful servant! You have been faithful with a few things; I will put you in charge of many things. Come and share your master’s happiness!’
“The man with two bags of gold also came. ‘Master,’ he said, ‘you entrusted me with two bags of gold; see, I have gained two more.’
“His master replied, ‘Well done, good and faithful servant! You have been faithful with a few things; I will put you in charge of many things. Come and share your master’s happiness!’
“Then the man who had received one bag of gold came. ‘Master,’ he said, ‘I knew that you are a hard man, harvesting where you have not sown and gathering where you have not scattered seed.So I was afraid and went out and hid your gold in the ground. See, here is what belongs to you.’
“His master replied, ‘You wicked, lazy servant! So you knew that I harvest where I have not sown and gather where I have not scattered seed? Well then, you should have put my money on deposit with the bankers, so that when I returned I would have received it back with interest.
“‘So take the bag of gold from him and give it to the one who has ten bags. For whoever has will be given more, and they will have an abundance. Whoever does not have, even what they have will be taken from them.” (Matthew 25:14-28 NIV)
Rejoice always, pray continually, give thanks in all circumstances; for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus. (1 Thessalonians 5:16-18 NIV)
Call to me and I will answer you and tell you great and unsearchable things you do not know. (Jeremiah 33:3 NIV)
By awesome and wondrous things
You answer us in righteousness,
O God of our salvation,
You who are the trust and hope
of all the ends of the earth
and of the farthest sea.
(Psalm 65:5 AMP)
