Remember the Faithful Voice

My sheep listen to my voice; I know them, and they follow me. (John 10:27 NIV)

My steps have held to your paths;
    my feet have not stumbled.
 I call on you, my God, for you will answer me;
    turn your ear to me and hear my prayer. (Psalm 17:5-6 NIV)

Tonight, we had our second Easter Choir rehearsal. Afterward, I spent some time talking with a man who is new to our church, though not new to the Lord. He has a rich background in music and worship, along with a deep passion for revival and discipleship. Recently, he and his wife felt led by God to move to this area, believing it was part of the plan for the next chapter in their lives. Tomorrow, he has three job interviews lined up for three very different positions. Now that they have settled here with their four young children, he feels perplexed. He wonders, “What job should I take? What church should I be involved in? What ministry should I pursue? Where is God’s voice in the midst of all these questions?”

Maybe you, too, feel like God very intentionally brought you to this place or chapter in life and then seemed to go silent.

Do you remember? Do you remember the times when God answered your prayers? Do you remember when you heard his Voice and followed it? Do you remember how faithful he was to come through for you? My words of encouragement to this man were to trust that the same God whose Voice he followed will not fail him now. God has not brought him (or you!) to this place and time only to abandon him (or you). Be patient. Be still. Be hopeful. God is still speaking, and he is speaking to you.

Good Shepherd,

Thank you for the many ways you speak to us, reminding us of your faithfulness and that you will never abandon us. Today, we pray that your Voice would be clear, guiding and directing us along the paths you have for us. In Jesus’s name, we pray, AMEN.
