That is why we are not afraid even when the earth quakes
or the mountains topple into the depths of the sea.
Water roars and foams, and mountains shake at the surging waves. Selah
There is a river whose streams bring joy to the city of God,
the holy place where the Most High lives.
(Psalm 46:2-4 GW)
Be careful that you do not refuse to listen when God speaks. Your ancestors didn’t escape when they refused to listen to God, who warned them on earth. We certainly won’t escape if we turn away from God, who warns us from heaven. When God spoke to your ancestors, his voice shook the earth. But now he has promised, ‘Once more I will shake not only the earth but also the sky.’ The words once more show clearly that God will change what he has made. These are the things that can be shaken. Then only the things that cannot be shaken will remain. Therefore, we must be thankful that we have a kingdom that cannot be shaken. Because we are thankful, we must serve God with fear and awe in a way that pleases him. After all, our God is a destructive fire. (Hebrews 12:25-29 GW)
Unshakeable God,
In these days of great shaking in the world, we thank you, Lord, that our hope is found in Jesus Christ alone.
You have rescued us from the power of darkness and brought us into the kingdom of your beloved Son, who paid the price to free us from sin and death. You existed before all things, you created all things, and you hold everything together. You are the head of your Church and will have first place in everything.
Today we come before you to intercede for your Church in this season of shaking. You said that everything that can be shaken will be shaken—and we are seeing that in our economy, our government, our culture, our families, and even within your Church.
We know your purpose in shaking is to expose wickedness and restore the goodness and perfection of your Kingdom. But, Lord, help us to endure. Strengthen your people. Draw your children into your Word, into prayer, and into deeper pursuit of you.
Rescue us from the grip of those being used for evil and wickedness. Set your Church free from watered-down theology, lukewarm faith, and distorted truth. Strengthen her. Awaken her to see how the enemy has deceived her into downplaying—or even denying—the authority Christ has given her.
Holy Spirit, build your Church in faith, in truth, in power and authority—confirmed by signs, wonders, and miracles. Remind her that she is called to go out and impact the world with Good News and Great Joy.
Let the Church remember that Jesus’s shed blood paid for all sin and secured an unshakable inheritance. You are our Rock and our Redeemer. We, your people, will not fear when the earth quakes, when mountains shake, or when waters roar—because you are our God.
We thank you that we are part of a Kingdom that cannot be shaken. We serve you with reverence and awe. We are free because of Jesus. We are whole. We are redeemed.
And we boldly declare:
We will not be shaken, because Jesus Christ is Lord!
AMEN and AMEN.
God has rescued us from the power of darkness and has brought us into the kingdom of his Son, whom he loves. His Son paid the price to free us, which means that our sins are forgiven.
He is the image of the invisible God,
the firstborn of all creation.
He created all things in heaven and on earth,
visible and invisible.
Whether they are kings or lords,
rulers or powers—
everything has been created through him and for him.
He existed before everything
and holds everything together.
He is also the head of the church, which is his body.
He is the beginning,
the first to come back to life
so that he would have first place in everything. (Colossians 1:13-18 GW)
“Don’t be afraid! I have good news for you, a message that will fill everyone with joy.” (Luke 2:10 GW)
“And God confirmed the message by giving signs and wonders and various miracles and gifts of the Holy Spirit whenever he chose.” (Hebrews 2:4 NLT)
