Suffering families

The prayer of a righteous person has great power as it is working. (James 5:16 ESV)

Although I have prayed for Charlie Kirk’s family over the last two weeks, I haven’t had space or time to write a blog post addressing the situation. While I generally align with what I know of his politics, I understand that others may not. Since politics is such a terribly divisive topic in our world today, I try to write carefully and gracefully whenever I am approaching a political subject. However, today, I want to look at this not from a political position, but from a position of shared humanity.

As a wife and mother, my heart hurts for the widow, children, parents, other relatives, and friends of Charlie Kirk.

I don’t understand why evil was able to take out this seemingly faithful and good family man.

As a parent, my heart hurts for the mom, dad, other family, and friends of the alleged shooter, Tyler Robinson.

I don’t understand why evil was able to convince a brilliant and promising young man that assassinating someone was the right thing to do.

And I can’t imagine how much these families and friends must be hurting right now.

I know that God can use all things for his purposes. But, sometimes…….you still wonder why things happen.

Here’s what I do know. The prayers of righteous men and women can make a huge difference in our world. So, would you join with me in praying for Charlie Kirk’s family and for Tyler Robinson’s family? In a world where evil and darkness have so much strength, let us join together to pray for LIGHT, HOPE, and CHRIST to be in these suffering people.

The prayer of a righteous person is powerful and effective. (James 5:16 NIV)

God,

Thank you that you are our refuge, our fortress, our strong tower, the one we run to when life is confusing or hard. Thank you for your faithfulness, even in the midst of things that don’t seem to make sense. Today we come to you to intercede for two families who have lost loved ones to an evil choice. We pray for your deep, shalom peace to be upon, within, and around them. Provide for them the emotional, spiritual, relational and physical support they need as they walk through this difficult time. Bless them with a deep sense of your Spirit’s presence, comfort, and encouragement. May this horrific incident somehow be used for your good Kingdom purposes, we ask in Jesus’s name. AMEN.
