“The Lord is the everlasting God, the Creator of all the earth. He never grows weak or weary. ”
(Isaiah 40:28 NLT)
Then Jesus said, “Come to me, all of you who are weary and carry heavy burdens, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you. Let me teach you, because I am humble and gentle at heart, and you will find rest for your souls.
(Matthew 11:28-29 NLT)
COME to me – an invitation, not a commandment. An opportunity to partake in a miracle.
“Seek the Lord while you can find him. Call on him now while he is near.” (Isaiah 55:6 NLT)
ALL of you – yes, all of you, all of me, and all of everyone.
“As God’s grace reaches more and more people, there will be great thanksgiving, and God will receive more and more glory.” (2 Corinthians 4:15 NLT)
Who are WEARY and carry heavy BURDENS – In this day and age, who doesn’t carry some sort of weariness or burden?
God has told his people, “Here is a place of rest; let the weary rest here. This is a place of quiet rest.” (Isaiah 28:12 NLT)
I will give you REST – A time to cease from life’s work and to relax, refresh, and recover.
“Those who live in the shelter of the Most High will find rest in the shadow of the Almighty.” (Psalm 91:1 NLT)
Take my yoke upon you. Not an animal yoke for doing hard work, but a close connection to Holy Spirit’s love, guidance, and direction.
“For you will break the yoke of their slavery and lift the heavy burden from their shoulders.” (Isaiah 9:4 NLT)
Let ME teach you, because I am humble and gentle at heart.
“You are of great worth in My eyes. You are honored and I love you.” (Isaiah 43:4 NLV)
You will find REST for your souls.
“The Lord will fight for you; you need only to be still.” (Exodus 14:14 NIV)
Burden-taking God,
Help us to come to you, we who are weary and heavy laden, and seek you for rest. Yoke us to Holy Spirit’s guidance so we can run this race with endurance. Help us to trust you to care for us and to fight for us when we need that. Help us to rest in the shadow of your Love and Hope. Jesus, be our Peace, we ask in your name. AMEN.
