Consistency

Therefore, my dear brothers and sisters, stand firm.
Let nothing move you.
Always give yourselves fully to the work of the Lord,
because you know that your labor in the Lord is not in vain.
(1 Corinthians 15:58 NIV)

I was doing an exercise video in which the trainer was talking about how consistency impacts our lives. She, of course, was talking mostly about consistency in fitness, but the concept applies to every aspect of our lives. A consistent diet of chocolate cake brings different results than a consistent diet of healthy foods. Time spent consistently ingesting the world’s bad news, indulging in porn or gossip, worrying, or being caught up in unnecessary drama brings angst, shame, anger, depression, or other negative fruits. Consistent time spent in prayer, Bible study, worship, and fellowship with other believers yields a spiritual harvest.

“Small, smart choices + consistency + time = a radical difference.” – Darren Hardy

“Little by little, drop by drop, with time a little becomes a lot.”

“If you get 1% better each day, by the end of the year you’ll be 37x better.” -James Clear

Jesus consistently “went away” from the others to spend time with God in prayer. The Apostle Paul consistently spent time with other people, teaching and training them up in the way of the Lord. David honed his slingshot skills through consistent care of his sheep; then taking down a giant was no big deal. The Proverbs 31 woman consistently worked at tasks that grew her strength, and she saw good gains.

She equips herself with strength [spiritual, mental, and physical fitness for her God-given task] and makes her arms strong. She sees that her gain is good. (Proverbs 31:17-18 AMP)

Today, let us consider what area(s) of our lives God may be calling us to a greater level of consistency so we can be strengthened for living.

“The first rule of compounding: never interrupt it unnecessarily.” – Charlie Munger

“It’s not the big things that add up in the end; it’s the hundreds, thousands, or millions of little things that separate the ordinary from the extraordinary.” – Darren Hardy

“Extraordinary accomplishments come from doing ordinary things for extraordinary periods of time.” – Alex Hormozi

God,

Thank you for the examples in scripture that show us how to live in consistent relationship with you. Thank you for your continued call to prayer and fellowship with you. Help us do the positive and constructive “little things” day after day, week after week, and year after year, so that we continue to grow in spiritual maturity and physical, mental, and emotional strength and fitness. May we strive to consistently please you, our Good and Gracious God, we pray in Jesus’s name, AMEN.
