Forever Thankful

Sing joyfully to the Lord, you righteous;
    it is fitting for the upright to praise him.
Praise the Lord with the harp;

    make music to him on the ten-stringed lyre.
Sing to him a new song;

    play skillfully, and shout for joy.
(Psalm 33:1-3 NIV)

It’s 10:15 p.m. Saturday night and I’m just sitting down to write for tomorrow. I didn’t really have anything burning to write about, so I hadn’t started anything yet. A few minutes ago I received the song list for tomorrow’s worship service, including two “throwback” songs the church used to do, but that weren’t in the current rotation. I haven’t played Israel Houghton’s “You Are Good” for probably 10-12 years, and Chris Tomlin’s “Forever” was one that we did at our wedding oh-so-many years ago. It seems like a good reminder as we enter into this Thanksgiving week:

Give thanks to the Lord, our God and King
His love endures forever
For He is good, He is above all things
His love endures forever
Sing praise, sing praise

With a mighty hand and outstretched arm
His love endures forever
For the life that’s been reborn
His love endures forever
Sing praise, sing praise

From the rising to the setting sun
His love endures forever
By the grace of God we will carry on
His love endures forever
Sing praise, sing praise

Forever God is faithful
Forever God is strong
Forever God is with us
Forever
*

We thank You, Lord, for You are good. You are the Lord of lords, the one who does great wonders. By Your wisdom, You created the heavens, and with Your mighty hand and outstretched arm, You reached down in love to offer us salvation. Your goodness and love endure forever.

As Your people gather for worship today, we ask that Your Spirit be poured out upon Your Church. Guide the pastors, preachers, worship leaders, and all those in leadership, that they may do all and only what You desire. May each congregation be filled with a deep love for You, and may our worship be pleasing in Your sight.

Let the songs we sing honor You and strengthen Your Church, making us more fruitful in Your service. We pray that salvation, healing, encouragement, and the power of Your Word would go forth in every place, transforming lives through the power of Your love.

Open the heavens and meet with Your children, Emmanuel. We ask all these things in the name of Jesus. Amen.

Give thanks to the Lord, for he is good.
His love endures forever.
Give thanks to the God of gods.
His love endures forever.
Give thanks to the Lord of lords:
His love endures forever.

to him who alone does great wonders,
His love endures forever.
who by his understanding made the heavens,
His love endures forever.
who spread out the earth upon the waters,

His love endures forever.
who made the great lights—
His love endures forever.
the sun to govern the day,
His love endures forever.
the moon and stars to govern the night;
His love endures forever.
to him who struck down the firstborn of Egypt

His love endures forever.
and brought Israel out from among them
His love endures forever.
with a mighty hand and outstretched arm;
His love endures forever. (Psalm 136:1-12 NIV)
