Gratitude

I will exalt You, my God, O King, And [with gratitude and submissive wonder] I will bless Your name forever and ever. (Psalm 145:1 AMP)

I just spent the entire day at a children’s hospital. We arrived at 9:15 a.m., checked in, and spoke with nurses, surgeons, and anesthesiologists. Around 11:20 a.m., we watched as our son was wheeled away for surgery. From that point on, we waited. We had lunch, did some work, read, walked—and waited some more. After five hours, the surgeon came out to let us know the procedure had gone well. Then we waited again while our son was moved to his room. It’s been a long, exhausting day, but thankfully, everything has gone smoothly.

Throughout the day, I saw families from all walks of life—Muslim, Amish, and many others. I saw children in wheelchairs, with prosthetic limbs, and with visible signs of being neurodivergent. I met a range of hospital staff, from sweet nurses and knowledgeable doctors, to the friendly café server and a kind security guard. I’m deeply thankful for the people who have both the heart and the skills to care for children who are sick or injured and help them live their fullest lives.

I’ve felt almost no anxiety today. I credit that peace to the many prayers offered on our behalf—truly a peace that surpasses understanding and guards our hearts and minds in Christ Jesus. As I write this I’m physically tired and hoping we might be able to go home tomorrow, depending on how our son does with physical therapy. But for now, I’m thankful for the compassionate professionals caring for him tonight so I can rest.

Tonight I’m too tired to write a full post or prayer, but I will just say “thank you” for praying.

AMEN

Do not be anxious or worried about anything, but in everything [every circumstance and situation] by prayer and petition with thanksgiving, continue to make your [specific] requests known to God. And the peace of God [that peace which reassures the heart, that peace] which transcends all understanding, [that peace which] stands guard over your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus [is yours]. (Philippians 4:6-7 AMP)
