The voice of the Lord divides flames of fire.
(Psalm 27:7 NASB)
The Lord is near to the brokenhearted
And saves those who are crushed in spirit.
(Psalm 34:18 NASB)
I had planned a different post for today, but after reading recent news coverage, I believe we need to shift our focus to praying for those affected by the wildfires in Texas, Oklahoma, and Kansas. Just 13 months ago, the world watched in horror as 13,000 homes were destroyed by fire in Los Angeles. This week, another wave of uncontained fires — fueled by high winds and dry conditions — has scorched at least 160,000 acres, destroyed homes and businesses, and forced evacuations. Please join me in praying for everyone affected by this situation.
All Powerful God,
In the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, we pray for and declare an end to the fires in the Great Plains. We ask that your powerful voice supernaturally diminish the wildfires raging in this region, extinguishing them completely. We pray that, whether by supernatural or natural means, you will halt the winds that are fueling these flames. We ask for long, gentle rains to fall, soaking the land and quenching the remaining fires.
We lift up the firefighters, asking that you provide them with every piece of equipment they need, an abundance of water to fight the flames, and the rest and assistance required to sustain their efforts. Grant them wisdom, endurance, and strength, Lord, and guide all first responders, leaders, and decision-makers with your deep insight. Today we especially pray for your peace and grace to be upon children whose parents are on the front lines. Protect, strengthen, and encourage these families as they wait for their loved ones to come home.
We pray for neighbors, friends, and families to come together in support, encouragement, and help for one another. May your Church have the physical, spiritual, and people resources it needs to help care for shocked and hurting people. Jehovah Jireh, we trust that you will provide every resource needed for those who have lost so much. Be near to the brokenhearted, to those crushed in spirit, and to those who have lost homes, businesses, and acres. Bind up their wounds and heal this area, we ask in the strong name of Jesus Christ, AMEN.
