Prayer for today

Light of the World,

Lord, you are our God; we exalt you and praise your name.  In perfect faithfulness you have done wonderful things planned in your wisdom long ago.  We see the contrast between your perfect and loving plans and this bent and broken world in which there is much evil and darkness.   We pray you will break the power of the wicked and pour out your judgement and justice on those who refuse to follow your Way, Truth, and Life. God, if ever we have needed your Spirit, your Justice, and your Love it is now. In the name of Jesus we ask you will release the flow of Holy Spirit for a Third Great Awakening in your Church and overflowing into the world so that your Word and Salvation can be poured out on this generation. Your righteousness, God, reaches to the heavens; You have done great things. Though you have made us see many and bitter troubles, we believe we will see you restore our lives, our hearts, and even this nation again to a place of honor. May those who want to suck the life, hope, and Light from this nation be put to shame and confusion, disgraced, and destroyed. But may those who long for your saving help, who cry out to you to quickly come rescue us, always remember that our Lord is great and greatly to be praised. You came to be the Light of the World.  Help us, your children, be salt and light in the world.  Help us to love measurably and demonstratively.  When we consider this year’s elections, help us to see others who vote a different way not necessarily as “evil” people but as fellow citizens with different life experiences, opinions, and hopes and dreams who may be truly misled by the enemy of our souls.  Help us to see each person as created and dearly loved by you. Help us to pray for, assist, or otherwise bless the people in our immediate sphere of influence.  Empower us not to be conquered by darkness and evil, but, by your Spirit, to be goodness and light for our nation and this world. Protect and uphold your children and purify your true Church from all unrighteousness. Give us pure hearts so that, when we stand before you some day, you will be able to say, “Well done, good and faithful servants.” In the name of Christ we ask, Amen.

“LORD, you are my God; I will exalt you and praise your name, for in perfect faithfulness you have done wonderful things, things planned long ago.” (Isaiah 25:1)

When Jesus spoke again to the people, he said, “I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will never walk in darkness, but will have the light of life.” (John 8:12)

“Don’t let evil conquer you, but conquer evil with good.” (Romans 12:21 GW)

“When I shut up the heavens so that there is no rain, or command locusts to devour the land or send a plague among my people, if my people, who are called by my name, will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and I will forgive their sin and will heal their land. Now my eyes will be open and my ears attentive to the prayers offered in this place. I have chosen and consecrated this temple so that my Name may be there forever. My eyes and my heart will always be there.” (2 Chronicles 7:13-16 NIV)

“Your righteousness, God, reaches to the heavens,
    you who have done great things.
    Who is like you, God?
20 Though you have made me see troubles,
    many and bitter,
    you will restore my life again;
from the depths of the earth
    you will again bring me up.

21 You will increase my honor
    and comfort me once more.” (Psalm 71:19-21 NIV)

“Hasten, O God, to save me;
    come quickly, Lord, to help me.

May those who want to take my life
    be put to shame and confusion;
may all who desire my ruin
    be turned back in disgrace.
May those who say to me, “Aha! Aha!”
    turn back because of their shame.
But may all who seek you
    rejoice and be glad in you;
may those who long for your saving help always say,
    “The Lord is great!”

But as for me, I am poor and needy;
    come quickly to me, O God.
You are my help and my deliverer;
    Lord, do not delay.” (Psalm 70 NIV)

“For the power of the wicked will be broken,
    but the Lord upholds the righteous.” (Psalm 37:17 NIV)

“His master replied, ‘Well done, good and faithful servant! You have been faithful with a few things; I will put you in charge of many things. Come and share your master’s happiness!’” (Matthew 25:21 NIV)
