Tell of His glory among the nations, His wonderful deeds among all the peoples. (1 Chronicles 16:24 NASB)
Last week I read an article by a foreign news source that talked about “thousands of people” who weren’t going to go to work, attend school, or shop on May 1 because that was an international communism day. I tried not to roll my eyes at the insinuation that “thousands” was a large number. After all, every day in the US “thousands” are born (approximately 10,000 according to statistics), and “thousands” die (approximately 8500 according to statistics). If in a nation of almost 350 million people “thousands” are protesting, I’m not impressed.
But, if in that same nation, millions are participating, I’m more likely to take notice.
Tomorrow is the 75th Annual National Day of Prayer, “an annual observance held on the first Thursday of May, inviting people to pray for the nation. It was created in 1952 by a joint resolution of the United States Congress, and signed into law by President Harry S. Truman…The Task Force represents a Judeo-Christian expression of the national observance, based on our understanding that this country was birthed in prayer and in reverence for the God of the Bible.” *
Last year’s National Day of Prayer Task Force reported these statistics:
National Broadcast Reach: The 2025 national broadcast reached 110 million homes in the U.S. and a global audience.
Volunteer Impact: Approximately 18,691 volunteer coordinators organized events.
Digital Engagement: The National Day of Prayer Task Force reported 678,927 Facebook followers and over 8.7 million views.
This year organizers are estimating over two million people will attend more than 30,000 local observances nationwide. Our local NDOP organizers have a youth event, three noon rallies, and an evening event planned. We will be part of the “millions” praying for the US.
Will you join us?
Almighty God, King of Glory, we confess our sins and repent of our pride that sought our own glory and comfort, allowing evil to take root instead of Your fruit in our hearts, homes, culture, and country. Please forgive us. Now, with this declaration of rededication, we humble ourselves, pray, and seek Your face, turning from our wicked ways, that You would heal our lives and our land.
Please purify and renew our hearts with holy attributes, affections, attitudes, and actions-to love You with all our heart, soul, mind, and strength. We give You glory as we repent and rededicate our lives and our nation to You. For 250 years You have guarded and guided America in wisdom, grace, mercy, and love. We praise and thank You for our Founding Fathers, for all who sought You in fervent prayer throughout history and answered Your call to defend justice and freedom; to protect and serve, preach and teach, innovate, communicate, learn, work, worship, and establish our laws.
May Your Kingdom come, and Your will be done in our lives, our Families, the Church, Education, Business, Military, Government, Arts, Entertainment and Media as it is in heaven. We prayerfully commit to “Glorify God Among the Nations, Seeking Him in All Generations.” In Jesus’ name, Amen! **
