Potpourri

“Are you weary, carrying a heavy burden? Come to me. I will refresh your life, for I am your oasis.” – Jesus (Matthew 11:28 TPT)

God, I’m a bit weary. Ok, a lot weary. Tired. Drained.

What does my Word say about that?

“Come to me, all you who are weary and heavy laden and I will give you rest.”

Good! I’m glad you are coming to me. Tell me about what is wearying you.

On Friday night, one of our sons graduated from high school. The next day, we hosted his open house for at least 125 people. Both events went smoothly, but they required a lot of preparation, coordination, and cleanup. Sunday morning, I played piano for both church services and later brought leftover open house food to serve as the meal for the youth group meeting. Then yesterday, we made an eight-hour round trip to Shriners Hospital in Chicago for a second opinion on another son’s hip injury. The verdict: his only path to improvement is another surgery. His SCFE from 2023 was fairly severe, but the doctors believe this procedure could improve his mobility, reduce his pain, and give him a better long-term outlook. Today, I’ve officially hit a wall. The washing machine handled the laundry, and I took two naps. That’s about the extent of what I’ve managed.

You know, it is ok to rest.

Yes. I feel no guilt in resting today.

The last few days have been a lot for you, physically, mentally, relationally, and emotionally.

Yes, definitely. Today, I don’t really feel like I have much to write that would be uplifting or encouraging for a blog post. The cold, gloomy rain isn’t helping—though I know the land needs it. I just feel… meh.

So, give me your “meh.”

There you go. Take it.

You have been caring for a lot of people in a potpourri of different ways lately and it’s ok to relax and rest for a bit. You need to spend more time with me. That will help you feel refreshed and alive. You will have more to give.

Lord, I know that. I want that. I’m looking forward to that refreshing time.

You’ve heard whispers of what I want to say to you, now you just have to slow down enough to sit with me and listen with your attention.

God, if I slow down any more tonight I might fall asleep.

That’s fine, Child! You need to rest. You do not have to carry the weight of every part of your world tonight. Just give it to me. I can and will take care of those you love. And your physical rest will help you absorb my spiritual and emotional refreshing.

God, is anything in this post helpful to someone else who is reading it?

Child, trust that I will speak to them in my way.

Yes, Lord. Thank you. Give us the reviving rain, showers of blessings to refresh us. Help us to rest and settle into your grace, peace, and kindness. Pour out your abundance in our dry and weary places, I ask in Jesus’s name.

So be it. I love you, Child.

Thank you, Lord.

You, O God, sent the reviving rain upon your weary inheritance, showers of blessing to refresh it. So there your people settled. And in your kindness you provided  the poor with abundance. (Psalm 68:9-10 TPT)
