Prayer for our County

[Please join me in praying for our nation and world on Tuesdays this year.]

“I am the Lord, the God of all mankind. Is anything too hard for me?” (Jeremiah 32:27 NIV)

Conquering God,

Great are you, Lord, and most worthy of praise, in this city, in this county, in this state, in this nation. You are our beautiful fortress who makes your people secure forever, as they seek you. Today we come to intercede for this city and county. In some ways we are no different than many other counties in this nation, but today we come because it is OUR county and we are called to pray for her.

We, your People and your Church of this area, confess that we have not boldly proclaimed your Truth well enough to influence the Church and wider culture. Now we see the fruit of that neglect in a Church who, in many places, allows the world – not your Word and Spirit – to form our worldview. Biblically abhorrent lifestyles are celebrated because your Church has often neglected her first love and her mission – to go and make disciples, teaching them all you have taught us. Forgive us for our sins. We pray that you would stir up a hunger within your people for your Spirit, your Truth, and your Righteousness. We pray that your people will stay faithful to you and their local churches this summer, and will be connecting and developing strong godly relationships within the Body of Christ, encouraging one another and bearing each other’s burdens. May your Church begin to have a vision for revival, renewal, and cultural and societal transformation. Give your people strategies to help this county achieve this transformation. May we grow strong in your strength, and may your Church see itself as called to stand firm for righteousness in this hour.

We pray for those in our community who are struggling against drugs, especially Fentanyl.  We pray for law enforcement agencies and officers to have prophetic insight to expose, arrest, and convict those who are bringing in these drugs into our county.  We pray you will purge our city of drug dealers, officials that look the other way, and the demonic spirits that cause people to desire any and all drugs. We pray that organizations that help addicts become free will be fully funded and staffed, and have your wisdom and strategies for their work. You have called us to a place of grace and freedom; help those who are addicted find resources and support to be freed and to stay free, we ask in Jesus’s name. We pray your Spirit will be poured out on youth and young adults so they will submit themselves wholly to God, to resist the devil and his temptations, fear, and lies, and to be freed from addictions to all drugs.

Your word calls us to seek the peace and prosperity of the place in which we live, knowing that if it prospers, so will we. Your word tells us that through the blessing of the upright a city is exalted, but by the mouth of the wicked it is destroyed. Your word tells us that arrogant cynics love to pick fights, but the humble and wise love to pursue peace. We pray that your people will seek your purity, peace, prosperity, and righteousness, so that justice, love, mercy, healing, grace, hope, and joy are released in this community. Praise be to you, Lord, for you have heard our cries for mercy. You are our strength and shield; our hearts trust in you and leap for joy, and with our song we praise you for your love and faithfulness to all your people in all places and times. Hear our prayers we ask, O God, in the name of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, AMEN.

The Lord is the strength of his people,
    a fortress of salvation for his anointed one.” (Psalm 28:6-8 NIV
)

“Great is the Lord, and most worthy of praise,
    in the city of our God, his holy mountain.

Beautiful in its loftiness,
    the joy of the whole earth,
like the heights of Zaphon is Mount Zion,
    the city of the Great King.
God is in her citadels;
    he has shown himself to be her fortress.

As we have heard,
    so we have seen
in the city of the Lord Almighty,
    in the city of our God:
God makes her secure
    forever.” (Psalm 48:1-3, 8 NIV)

“Praise be to the Lord,
    for he has heard my cry for mercy.
The Lord is my strength and my shield;
    my heart trusts in him, and he helps me.
My heart leaps for joy,
    and with my song I praise him.

The Lord is the strength of his people,
    a fortress of salvation for his anointed one.” (Psalm 28:6-8 NIV)

“Seek the peace and prosperity of the city to which I have carried you into exile. Pray to the Lord for it, because if it prospers, you too will prosper.” (Jeremiah 29:7 NIV)

“When the righteous prosper, the city rejoices;
    when the wicked perish, there are shouts of joy.

Through the blessing of the upright a city is exalted,
    but by the mouth of the wicked it is destroyed.” (Proverbs 11:10-11 NIV)

“Arrogant cynics love to pick fights, but the humble and wise love to pursue peace.” (Proverbs 29:8 TPT)

“It is for freedom that Christ has set us free. Stand firm, then, and do not let yourselves be burdened again by a yoke of slavery.” (Galatians 5:1 NIV)

“Now the Lord is the Spirit, and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is freedom.” (2 Corinthians 3:17 NIV)

“Submit yourselves, then, to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you.” (James 4:7 NIV)
