Prayer for our economy

Jehovah Jireh, Our Provider,

Today we pray for the economy – of our world and our nation. We pray that policy-makers would make wise decisions that honor your Word. We pray that work and businesses would be honored and encouraged. We pray that you would help us repay our debts, as we are very aware that “The borrower is slave to the lender.” Help our nation to make tough choices so we can honor promises made to veterans, elderly, and other vulnerable citizens, but not then burden current and future generations with more debt. Help us to make good choices so our economy can be healthy and everyone – from the poorest to the rich – can see your hope and provision.

Heal us we pray, Amen

“Rich and poor have this in common:
    The Lord is the Maker of them all.

The prudent see danger and take refuge,
    but the simple keep going and pay the penalty.

Humility is the fear of the Lord;
    its wages are riches and honor and life.

The rich rule over the poor,
    and the borrower is slave to the lender.”  (Proverbs 22:2-5 NIV)

“When I shut up the heavens so that there is no rain, or command locusts to devour the land or send a plague among my people, if my people, who are called by my name, will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and I will forgive their sin and will heal their land. Now my eyes will be open and my ears attentive to the prayers offered in this place. I have chosen and consecrated this temple so that my Name may be there forever. My eyes and my heart will always be there.” (2 Chronicles 7:13-16 NIV)
