Psalm 82 prayer for Justice and Revival in the Law System

God of Justice,

Everything belongs to you and the nations will be sifted in your hands; you preside in the great judgement of the earth.  You put into place justices, judges, lawyers, and others who you commission to judge on your behalf as your representatives.  You expect the law and justice to be upheld, so you judge those who are supposed to administer the law in the courtrooms and legal proceedings of this nation.  Your Word calls us to defend the weak, fatherless, poor, oppressed, and needy – yet the wicked walk about in darkness and ignorance while the foundations of society are shaken to the core.  The legal system is now often defending the unjust and showing partiality to the wicked. Help us to never oppress the poor or pass laws with the motive of crushing the weak, for we know you will humiliate anyone who humiliates the poor.  You have insight into wise plans designed for us.  Your understanding, courage, and strength empower rulers to make laws that are just.  Your wisdom, compassion, and grace help judges and justices to fairly apply the law.  We know a rebellious nation is thrown into chaos, but leaders anointed with wisdom will restore law and order.  We know that we find true success when we find you. So, we pray for a pouring out of your wisdom, your anointing, and your grace upon those who make and interpret laws in this nation.  Pour out your Spirit upon them – cause revival to happen in law schools, courtrooms, and law offices throughout this land.  May those in the law industry have hearts to seek and serve you first, above all other gods of money, power, or prestige.  And may their work reflect your timeless and Biblical principles that lead to liberty and justice for all.  In Christ’s name we pray, Amen.

You will find true success when you find me,

    for I have insight into wise plans that are designed just for you.

    I hold in my hands living-understanding, courage, and strength.

I empower kings to reign and rulers to make laws that are just.

I empower princes to rise and take dominion,

    and generous ones to govern the earth. (Proverbs 8:14-16 TPT)

Never oppress the poor

    or pass laws with the motive of crushing the weak.

For the Lord will rise to plead their case

    and humiliate the one who humiliates the poor. (Proverbs 22:23 TPT)

A rebellious nation is thrown into chaos, but leaders anointed with wisdom will restore law and order. (Proverbs 28:2 TPT)

God presides in the great assembly;
    he renders judgment among the “gods”:
“How long will you defend the unjust
    and show partiality to the wicked?
Defend the weak and the fatherless;
    uphold the cause of the poor and the oppressed.
Rescue the weak and the needy;
    deliver them from the hand of the wicked.
“The ‘gods’ know nothing, they understand nothing.
    They walk about in darkness;
    all the foundations of the earth are shaken.
“I said, ‘You are “gods”;
    you are all sons of the Most High.’
But you will die like mere mortals;
    you will fall like every other ruler.”
Rise up, O God, judge the earth,
for all the nations are your inheritance. (Psalm 82 NIV)

All rise! For God now comes to judge
    as he convenes heaven’s courtroom.
    He judges every judge and rules in the midst of the gods, saying,

“How long will you judges refuse to listen
    to the voice of true justice and continue to corrupt what is right
    by judging in favor of the wrong?”
Pause in his presence

“Defend the defenseless, the fatherless and the forgotten,
    the disenfranchised and the destitute.

Your duty is to deliver the poor and the powerless;
    liberate them from the grasp of the wicked.

But you continue in your darkness and ignorance
    while the foundations of society are shaken to the core!

Didn’t I commission you as judges, saying,
    ‘You are all like gods, since you judge on my behalf.
    You are all like sons of the Most High, my representatives.’

Nevertheless, in death you are nothing but mere men!
    You will be laid in the ground like any prince and you will die.”

All rise! For God now takes his place as judge of all the earth.
    Don’t you know that everything and everyone belongs to him?
    The nations will be sifted in his hands!  (Psalm 82 TPT)
