First of all, then, I urge that supplications, prayers, intercessions, and thanksgivings be made for all people, for kings and all who are in high positions, that we may lead a peaceful and quiet life, godly and dignified in every way. This is good, and it is pleasing in the sight of God our Savior. (1 Timothy 2:1-3 ESV)
This weekend, both the state Republican Party and the Democratic Party will hold their State Conventions. While 2025 may not be an election year (thanks be to God!), it serves as a preparatory year leading up to the midterm elections in 2026, when the ballot will feature candidates for statewide offices. Let us come together in prayer, asking God to guide both conventions this weekend.
God,
You instructed us to pray for those in authority over us so that we may live peaceful lives. We recognize that the choices we make as citizens at the ballot box impact the economy, lawmaking, and even the spiritual climate of our state. Today, we lift up both the Democratic and Republican state conventions in prayer. We pray for peace and order in both gatherings. May your will be done, and may the right party chairs and leaders be chosen for the positions you need them to hold. We ask that you thwart any plans for violent protests or other disruptions aimed at these groups. We also pray against any spiritual attacks from the enemy. May your wisdom guide all decisions, may truth prevail, may light expose darkness, and may your Spirit not only be felt but also direct both proceedings. We ask all of this in Jesus’s name. AMEN.
