Listen to my testimony: I cried to God in my distress and he answered me. He freed me from all my fears! (Psalm 34:4 TPT)
If we accept the testimony of men, how much more should we accept the more authoritative testimony of God that he has testified concerning his Son? (1 John 5:9 TPT)
This testimony of faith is what previous generations were commended for. (Hebrews 11:2 TPT)
They conquered him completely through the blood of the Lamb and the powerful word of his testimony. They triumphed because they did not love and cling to their own lives, even when faced with death. (Revelation 12:11 TPT)
When we think of a testimony, we often picture a courtroom where evidence is being presented that pertains to the case. But outside of the judicial system, testimonies are personal stories shared with others. They may tell what God has done in someone’s life, and they often serve multiple purposes. They encourage others, showing that God is active and faithful, and they share the gospel in a relatable, tangible way. Telling your own testimony also strengthens your faith and helps you reflect on God’s work in your life. In community, testimonies build connection and inspire others, while also giving praise and glory to God. Overall, they are a powerful way to demonstrate God’s love, power, and faithfulness in real life.
The theme of last weekend’s women’s conference was “Testify.” I believe one of the powerful ways in which God speaks to us is through others’ stories, and that’s why we must tell those stories to others around us. We must testify to God’s faithfulness, grace, mercy, healing, provision, and all other things he does in our lives. When we share our experiences, it can encourage others in their faith – to not give up, to keep moving forward, to trust God in the struggles.
In the course of the weekend we heard a variety of messages designed to testify about how God moved and helped in a person’s life. My hope is that the women there were encouraged in their faith.
One of the special songs that were presented to the ladies was sung by a trio of ladies who – through God’s work in their lives – had overcome things like sexual abuse and parental abandonment. “Testimony,” recorded by Terrian, has the following lyrics. As you read them, or listen to the recording, I invite you to consider how YOU are a living, breathing testimony of God’s faithfulness.
This is the moment where everything turns
Didn’t think I would see it, was hard to believe
Heaven crashes to Earth
I’ve read the stories of all that You’ve done
Parted the sea and set captives free
Never thought I’d be one
I am a living, breathing, walking testimony
I am the living proof of what the Lord has done
May call it crazy, but they can’t take away my story
‘Cause I am a living, breathing, walking testimony
They said I wouldn’t make it, that I should give up
But they didn’t know that the God that I sеrve is more than enough
Hе can move mountains, He can make broken beautiful
I never run out of hope when I run to the God of miracles
I am a living, breathing, walking testimony
I am the living proof of what the Lord has done
May call it crazy, but they can’t take away my story
‘Cause I am a living, breathing, walking testimony…*
May we each testify to the Lord’s goodness in our lives. May we be living proof of what the Lord has done in our lives, and encourage those around us in their faith.
God,
Thank you for the ways in which you met each of the women at the conference last weekend. Thank you for the many testimonies about your goodness and faithfulness. May the seeds of those words be planted deeply in our hearts so we are encouraged, built up, and comforted. Help us to be people who testify to those around us, knowing that we are triumphant through the blood of the Lamb, Jesus, and the word of our testimony. We ask these things in Jesus’s name, AMEN.
