Bring all who claim me as their God, for I have made them for my glory. It was I who created them.
(Isaiah 43:7 NLT)
Imagine a clear glass bowl or vase. It could be any size—simple or ornate—but it’s free of scratches, chips, or blemishes. Someone designed and shaped it on purpose. Maybe it was meant to store something useful, help prepare a meal, display something beautiful, or even hold life—like fish, plants, or a terrarium.
Now, picture that vessel as a metaphor—for you.
You were created by an all-knowing, all-loving, all-powerful God. You are not an accident. You were made intentionally, and for a purpose.
So what is that purpose?
The Westminster Shorter Catechism (1647) states:
“Man’s chief end is to glorify God, and to enjoy Him forever.”
Pastor and author John Piper rephrased it:
“The chief end of man is to glorify God by enjoying Him forever.”
Both affirm the same truth: We were created to live in relationship with God—to glorify Him and delight in Him always. When we truly understand our identity and purpose in light of our Creator, it changes how we live. Our choices, our values, our actions, and even our desires align with what God wants for us.
The Creator of the universe made you uniquely—and when he did, he declared, “It is good.”
Of course, life isn’t always so clean and clear. Our “glass” gets dirty—clouded by sin, poor choices, and brokenness. But our loving Father offers a way to be cleansed. It’s not complicated or harsh. It’s simple: confess your sins and ask for forgiveness.
The Bible gives us this hope in 1 John 1:9 (AMP):
“If we [freely] admit that we have sinned and confess our sins, He is faithful and just [true to His own nature and promises], and will forgive our sins and cleanse us continually from all unrighteousness [everything not in conformity with His will and purpose].”
What an incredible promise. God doesn’t just forgive us once or twice—he offers continual cleansing. No matter how dirty our lives become, he is always ready to wipe us clean by the grace and mercy of Jesus Christ. Like wiping away grime from a glass bowl, he restores us—pure, whole, and ready to be used for his good purposes.
So today, remember:
You were made by a good and loving Creator. You were made on purpose, for a purpose.
And even when life clouds your clarity, your Savior is ready to forgive, cleanse, and restore.
So let your life reflect the One who created you—whole, purposeful, and continually made new by his grace. You are a vessel in the hands of the Master—created with love, redeemed with grace, and made to shine for his glory.
God,
Thank you for creating us in your image for a purpose. Thank you for your cleansing love and the forgiveness we receive. May our lives be spent enjoying who you are and reflecting your glory. We pray this in Jesus’s name. AMEN.
