Worship in heaven and on earth

“Sing praises to the Lord, for he has done gloriously; let this be made known in all the earth.”
(Isaiah 12:5 NIV)

Revelations 4, 5, and 11 talk of these fantastic creatures in heaven who are constantly worshiping God.

Day after day and night after night they keep on saying,

“Holy, holy, holy is the Lord God, the Almighty—
the one who always was, who is, and who is still to come.”

Whenever the living beings give glory and honor and thanks to the one sitting on the throne (the one who lives forever and ever), the twenty-four elders fall down and worship the one sitting on the throne (the one who lives forever and ever). And they lay their crowns before the throne and say,

“You are worthy, O Lord our God,
to receive glory and honor and power.
For you created all things,
and they exist because you created what you pleased.” (Rev. 4:8-11 NLT)

Then I looked again, and I heard the voices of thousands and millions of angels around the throne and of the living beings and the elders. And they sang in a mighty chorus:

“Worthy is the Lamb who was slaughtered—
    to receive power and riches
and wisdom and strength
and honor and glory and blessing.”

And then I heard every creature in heaven and on earth and under the earth and in the sea. They sang:

“Blessing and honor and glory and power
belong to the one sitting on the throne
and to the Lamb forever and ever.”

And the four living beings said, “Amen!” And the twenty-four elders fell down and worshiped the Lamb.  (Revelation 5:11-14 NLT)

“The world has now become the Kingdom of our Lord and of his Christ,
and he will reign forever and ever.” (Revelation 11:15 NLT)

Today as we gather for worship in our respective congregations, may we know that we join all creatures in all times singing praises to the Lord of Heaven and Earth.

Father, Son and Holy Spirit,

We join with all the hosts of heaven in singing, “Holy are You, Lord God Almighty; heaven and earth are filled with Your glory. Hosanna in the highest!” You are exalted above all creatures, beings, and gods. You alone are worthy of all our praise, worship, and adoration. As Your people gather for worship this morning, we pray that Your Holy Spirit would be poured out on every assembly. May our worship rise as a sweet offering to Your ears. Let Your Word and Spirit go forth to tear down barriers, bring healing to bodies, minds, and souls, call hearts to repentance, and awaken the Church to go and make disciples. We ask all this in Jesus’ name,
AMEN.
