I’ve been thinking about moments today.
Earlier I saw a reel that was talking about how every moment of childhood was unique and you would never have it again. The two year old quickly grows into the three year old who, suddenly, is nineteen. “The days are long, but the years are short” rings so true.
Last night our family hosted my son and daughter-in-love and some church friends for supper. Then the friends took our family pictures here at our house and up at the beach. The night was fun, filled with good fellowship and laughter. Watching my daughter-in-love boss her three brothers-in-law around to get some “artistic” pictures was funny. We capped off the evening with ice cream and peaches on the deck.
So many moments to remember.
This time next week our nineteen-year-old will be in Ireland for sixteen weeks to study abroad. I am very excited for him – and my mama-heart isn’t sure about him being so far away for so long. The moments of yesterday, today, and this week seem a bit more poignant. His hugs. His wanting to watch “It’s the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown” with me. His playing drums downstairs. His smiles. These are treasured moments.
Today, may we be people aware of the gifts of each day, given by the Giver of All Good Gifts, to us, the children He loves.
God,
Thank You that each day is a gift from You, and we rejoice in the abundance of life You have given us. Thank You for the breath of life You breathe into us and for Your Spirit within us. Thank You for giving us the awareness to recognize how blessed we are and the faith to trust that You make all things beautiful in Your time. Help us to notice and treasure the gifts You place within the ordinary moments of our days, and teach us to rejoice in Your goodness and faithfulness. We ask this in Jesus’ name, AMEN.
